As kids, many of us wished we were older. As adults, though, all we ever want to do is look younger. For some, it becomes a matter of reversing things after they happen. Some, though, are able to learn how to prevent early wrinkles from happening.

Before you can prevent wrinkles, you need to understand how they get started. After all, it’s impossible to avoid or treat what you don’t understand. There are two big causes of wrinkles to learn about.

Internal, sometimes known as intrinsic, causes are one of the two big wrinkle creators. For example, genetics can play a role in the health of your skin. So, you might get wrinkles at age 20 or age 50, depending on your genes.

Depending on what skin problem you have, suck as wrinkles, dry skin, thin skin or sagging skin, you can find products to help you reverse signs of aging, even if they are caused intrinsically. Just be careful. Not all products are created equal. Some don’t work as well as they advertise, while others work better than they claim.

Of course, there’s another category that skin problems, like wrinkles, can be caused by. That’s extrinsic (external) factors. In other words, the lifestyle you lead can cause skin damage.

Sun Exposure:

Of course, catching some rays is a good thing. Many of us love nothing more than to spend our days out in the sun, especially as kids. The sun is not so great in large doses, though. In fact, it can cause skin cancer, not to mention the problem we’re discussing, wrinkles and premature age signs.

Smoke Damage:

It’s no secret that smoking can cause lung cancer, as well as other health ailments. What you might not realize, though, is that, if you smoke, you are likely to get a lot more wrinkles and skin problems. All is not lost, though. If you quit smoking, you will often see the state of your skin’s health improve quite a bit.

Facial Exercises:

It’s difficult to say whether facial exercises can help you stop wrinkles from forming or not. A few exercises can certainly help you to firm up your muscles. However, if you over do it, some say that you will just create the very wrinkles you’re trying to stop.

You can’t avoid aging forever. What you can do, though, as you can see, is slow it down a bit. By choosing to lead a healthier lifestyle, you can give yourself a head start on wrinkle control.
